Machining FR4
FR4 is the electronics industry's structural material: the same glass-epoxy system printed circuit boards are built on, flame-retardant to UL94 V-0, strongly insulating, and dimensionally stable. Machined FR4 becomes test fixtures, probe plates, insulating spacers, and mounting hardware that lives alongside electronics.
Like G-10, the glass content demands carbide or diamond tooling and dust extraction, and clean hole walls and edges matter, especially on probe plates where hole position and size control fixture accuracy.
We machine FR4 sheet and bar to ±0.05 mm on critical features, with the small precise holes and pocket arrays fixture work typically calls for.
Common Grades We Machine
- FR-4 - The standard flame-retardant glass-epoxy for electronics hardware.
- FR-5 / G-11 - Higher-temperature systems for fixtures that run hot.
- ESD-safe laminates - Static-dissipative grades for handling-sensitive assemblies, sourced on request.
Applications by Industry
- Semiconductor - test and burn-in fixtures, probe plates and insulating carriers.
- Automotive - electronics test fixtures and insulating hardware for ECU production.
Surface Finishing Options
- Machined finish - clean edges and precise hole walls off the tool.
- Deburring - smooth handling edges on fixtures and panels.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why machine FR4 instead of plastic for test fixtures?
Stability and stiffness: FR4 holds hole positions and flatness under probe loads and temperature far better than unfilled plastics, and it's inherently flame retardant.
How precise can holes in FR4 be?
We hold ±0.05 mm on critical hole positions and diameters: the accuracy probe plates and alignment fixtures depend on.
Do you machine ESD-safe materials?
Yes. static-dissipative laminates and plastics are available for fixtures handling ESD-sensitive product; tell us the surface-resistance spec and we'll source accordingly.
