Machining G-10
G-10 is a glass-fabric epoxy laminate: exceptional stiffness and strength for a non-metal, superb electrical insulation, near-zero moisture absorption, and dimensional stability that shames unfilled plastics. Insulators, fixture plates, test-equipment structures and cryogenic supports are its territory.
The glass that gives G-10 its strength also devours ordinary tooling: machining it well means carbide or diamond tooling, dust extraction, and edge-quality discipline to prevent delamination at exits. It is a material where shop experience shows immediately.
We machine G-10 and its high-temperature sibling G-11 with composite-appropriate tooling and hold ±0.05 mm on critical features.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between G-10 and FR4?
Chemistry-wise they're siblings; FR-4 adds flame retardance and is the electronics standard. If the application has an electrical compliance requirement, specify FR-4; for pure structural or cryogenic use, G-10/G-11.
Why does G-10 machining cost more than plastic machining?
The glass fabric wears tooling rapidly and demands slower, more careful machining plus dust management. The payoff is metal-like stability with electrical insulation no metal can offer.
Is G-10 dimensionally stable?
Exceptionally: it barely absorbs moisture and creeps far less than unfilled plastics, which is why precision fixture plates are often G-10 rather than plastic.
