Machining Inconel
Inconel is among the hardest materials to machine commercially: it work-hardens aggressively, keeps its strength at cutting temperatures, and abrades tooling relentlessly. Success depends on rigid machines, positive sharp inserts, constant chip load and disciplined toolpaths: hesitation hardens the surface and ruins the next pass.
Buyers accept that cost because nothing else survives the environment: Inconel keeps its strength and corrosion resistance from cryogenic temperatures up beyond 600 °C, where steels and titanium have long given up.
We machine Inconel 625 and 718 with the slow-and-certain parameters the alloy demands, hold ±0.025 mm on critical features, and document every part with mill certificates and full traceability.
Common Grades We Machine
- Inconel 625 - Outstanding corrosion resistance and fabricability for seawater, chemical process and exhaust applications.
- Inconel 718 - The precipitation-hardened workhorse for high-strength parts at temperature: turbine and downhole components.
Applications by Industry
- Automotive - turbocharger components, exhaust manifolds and high-temperature brackets.
- Oil & Gas - downhole tools, valve internals and fittings in sour, high-pressure service.
Surface Finishing Options
- Precision grinding - tight-tolerance features and fine finishes on hardened parts.
- Bead blasting - uniform matte surfaces and scale removal.
- Passivation / pickling - clean, oxide-stable surfaces for corrosive service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Inconel so expensive to machine?
It work-hardens as it is cut and stays strong at cutting temperatures, so material removal is slow and tool consumption high. Machine time, not raw material, dominates the part price.
Inconel 625 or 718: which one?
625 for maximum corrosion resistance and easier fabrication; 718 when the part needs high strength at temperature, as in turbine or downhole applications.
Do you supply certification for Inconel parts?
Yes. Mill certificates and full traceability ship with every part, with inspection documentation to semiconductor and oil & gas requirements.
